Virat Kohli was in action for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) when they took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 17 April 2023. The stage was set for an enthralling battle at the Cinnaswamy Stadium in this ongoing IPL. However, the match turned out to be a thrilling one but RCB lost the game by eight runs.
CSK’s Devon Conway won the Player of the Match award for his 83 runs off 45 balls. But, after the match, Virat Kohli hit the headlines as he got fined 10% of his match fees for breaking the IPL Code Of Conduct during the clash. The Indian Cricket Board released an official statement as the former RCB skipper also admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Virat Kohli scored just six runs against CSK in IPL 2023
In the release, the Board said: “Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding”.
However, fans were surprised to see the former RCB skipper getting fined as he did nothing so much. But, it seemed that it might be for his aggressive behaviour while celebrating the wicket of Shivam Dube. Kohli was seen celebrating the wicket aggressively and using some false words. But, fans were surprised to see a player getting fined for celebrating a wicket. Speaking of the match, CSK batted first and scored 226 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. In reply, RCB scored 218 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by eight runs. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli had a poor day with the bat as he scored six runs off four balls.
