Delhi faced a crushing defeat against Lucknow in the 15th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. They were outplayed by the opposition in all aspects of the game. Except for Prithvi Shaw, all other Delhi batters looked uncomfortable in the middle and were struggling to adjust themselves to the playing conditions. They just managed to score 149 runs in their 20 overs, which Lucknow chased down losing only 4 wickets and with two balls remaining in the match.
After the crushing defeat in the match, Delhi’s woes seemingly have not ended. Their skipper Rishabh Pant has been now punished because of the team’s slow over-rate. Pant has been fined a sum of INR 12 Lakhs for the team’s offence. The Indian T20 League authority has released a statement – “The Delhi team have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian T20 League 2022 match against Lucknow at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7.”
“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the ITL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Delhi captain Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 Lakhs,”- the press release read.
Speaking of the match and their loss in the match, Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation ceremony that the dew played a major factor in the match. To quote him from the ceremony – “When the dew is like that you can’t be complaining, as a batting unit we were 10-15 short. At the end, Avesh and Holder Pulled it back, credit to them.”
“We were talking about giving 100 per cent till the last ball of the 40th over, no matter what happens. The powerplay was fine, we didn’t get any wicket, our spin attack did well in the middle overs but in the end, we were 10-15 short,”- Pant added.
