“Selectors will give you the answer to that” - Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens up on Team India comeback

Ousted Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has opened up on his chances of making it to the Indian team again, stating that only selectors can answer when he would be back donning the national jersey.

Notably, Bhuvi last played for Team India against New Zealand in November 2022 in a T20I match in Napier. On the other hand, his last ODI came against South Africa in Paarl in January 2022.

“The selectors will give you the answer to that. My job is to give my 100% on the field, and I am doing that. After the UP League, if I get a chance to play for the senior state teams in the Mushtaq Ali, Ranji, or one-day formats, I will try to perform my best there as well. As a disciplined bowler, my focus is on my fitness and my line and length. No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck doesn’t favor you,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar told Dainik Jagran.

Furthermore, with Rajeev Shukla being elevated as the interim BCCI president, Bhuvneshwar felt that it would be difficult to overlook talent from Uttar Pradesh. However, he felt that players should focus on giving their 100 percent and the rest depends on the selectors.

“Your performance is paramount. If someone plays good cricket consistently, they cannot be ignored for long. Even if you’re not selected, focus on giving your 100 percent. The rest is up to the selectors. Yes, with Rajeev Shukla as president, it will be difficult to overlook talent,” he added.

Notably, Bhuvi has scalped 141 wickets in ODIs and 91 scalps in T20Is. He represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 season after being roped in by the franchise for the whopping INR 10.75 Crore after being released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

He went on to pick 17 wickets from 14 matches for RCB, playing a pivotal role in propelling the franchise to the first-ever title win in 18-year league history.
