Joginder Sharma earned a place in every Indian Cricket team fan’s heart when he won the final of the inaugural edition of the 20-20 World Cup in 2007. It was Joginder Sharma who took the wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq and team India won that final by five runs. Thus, the Men in Blue became the first-ever champion of the 20-20 World Cup history.

Speaking about his career, he played four ODIs for India where he took just one wicket, at an economy of 4.60. While he played four T20Is and took four wickets, at an economy of 9.51. The 20-20 World Cup 2007 final was his last T20I match at Johannesburg. On the other hand, he played his last ODI match against West Indies on 24 January 2007 at Cuttack.

Joginder Sharma confirmed his retirement from all forms of cricket on 3 February 2023

However, on 3 February 2023, this Indian bowler announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He shared a tweet with the caption: “Announced retirement from cricket Thanks to each and every one for your love and support.” He also shared his gratitude to the Indian Cricket Board, the Governing Body of Cricket, and the Haryana Cricket Association. In the Indian T20 League, he represented the Chennai franchise. In four seasons, he took 12 wickets in 16 matches, at an economy of 9.82. He also shared an image where he wrote a brief of his journey on Twitter.

To the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Joginder Sharma wrote: “Today, with immense gratitude and humility, I announce my retirement from all forms of international cricket. My journey from 2002-2017 has been the most wonderful years of my life for it was an honour representing India at the highest level of the sport.” He also thanked his teammates, fans, and family members for their unconditional support and love through his journey in the cricketing world. He also confirmed that he will explore new opportunities in the world of cricket and the business side of it. Currently, Joginder Sharma serves as a Deputy superintendent of police in the Haryana Police.
