Mark Taylor has been quietly making the headlines. He recently opened up with his views about Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal on the final day of Test 2 in Ashes 2023. This time around Taylor picked his five best batters in the last five decades. Surprisingly, his list was adored by fans as a near-perfect one.

He picked Vivian Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli, and Steve Smith in the same order. Most fans appeared content with the list in their reactions on social media. However, there were still a few who questioned the omission of players like Alastair Cook, Rahul Dravid, and Ricky Ponting. However, the point to be noted here is that Taylor tried to analyse a whole decade which legitimises his claims in the opinion of many.

Mark Taylor lauded Alex Carey’s quick thinking in Bairstow’s dismissal

Talking of Taylor’s opinions on Jonny Bairstow’s headline dismissal, he said in appreciation for Alex Carey, “He had a terrific game. Obviously would've liked to have made a few more, but his glovework was impeccable in this game. I think he just gets better every time I watch him.”

“The stumping to remove (Zak) Crawley in the first innings was crucial, the catch down the leg side today, obviously the controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow. What he's doing is he's thinking all the time about how he can contribute to Australia's performance,” he added.

Moreover, Taylor was full of appreciation for skipper Pat Cummins’ brave captaincy in the ongoing Ashes 2023. “Another good all-round game for Pat with bat and ball and also in the field. It wasn't easy today, but (he) found a way around that lunch break just to settle the game down a bit, change tactics, bowl a bit wider to Ben Stokes, just keep him quiet for an over or two. It was getting away from them before lunch, but had that chance to regroup after lunchtime and came out and changed the game,” he said.
