On 11 February 2023, team India managed to win the series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Nagpur. Ravindra Jadeja won the player of the match award for his overall performance with both the bat and the ball. However, even before the beginning of this series, the Nagpur pitch was in the headlines.
Australian media blamed the Men in Blue for doctoring the pitch. They claimed that they have intentionally watered the pitch in some portions. During the first day of that match, they also blamed the DRS for a review decision over the dismissal of Usman Khawaja. Apart from these, the Australian media also put allegations against Ravindra Jadeja for ball tampering.
India defeated Australia by an inning and 132 runs in the Nagpur Test
Now, after the match, Cricket Australia shared another image on Twitter where they alleged team India for unconventional slip placement in the match. The incident took place during the 30th over of Australia’s second innings. Ravindra Jadeja was bowling while Steve Smith was batting along with Nathan Lyon. During that over, Suryaumar Yadav was seen fielding at an unconventional position. Regarding that, the Australia Cricket Board shared the tweet. But, fans were not happy as it was not the first time when a player fielded in that position. They came up and shared their views on social media platforms.
Speaking of the match, Australia battered first and got bundled out for just 177 runs in 63.5 overs. In reply, India scored 400 runs in 139.3 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 120 runs off 212 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes. Thus, the Men in Blue managed a lead of 223 runs. But, Australian batters were all over the place as they got bundled out for just 91 runs in 32.3 overs. Thus, India defeated Australia by an inning and 132 runs and managed a 1-0 lead over the visitors.
