The Asia Cup is all set to take place from 31 August to 17 September 2023. The  Asia Cricket Council (ACC) accepted the proposed Hybrid model from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and as per that, four matches will be played in Pakistan and nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. However, there were reports that Shreyas Iyer is most likely to get recovered for this upcoming tournament.

But, now as per reports in Times of India, Iyer is most unlikely to recover on time for Asia Cup 2023. Listening to that, fans shared their views on social media. Iyer got injured during the fourth BGT Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad. After that, he had a successful back surgery and is currently in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for his recovery.

Shreyas Iyer last played for Team India in March 2023

Due to this injury, he missed both the IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC) final.  So, if he fails to play in this tournament also, then India might have to look for other players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Sanju Samson. Speaking about Asia Cup, it is finally going to happen after so many discussions. But, now, on 22 June, as per reports by ESPNCricinfo, Zaka Ashraf is going to honour the decision of accepting the hybrid model despite he personally did not like it. He is most likely to be the next PCB Chairman as Najam Sethi has stepped down from that position.

Ashraf said: "In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn't beneficial for Pakistan and I didn't like it. Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka taking the bigger lot of games, leaving Pakistan with only four games, isn't in the best interest of our country. But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention not to comply with the decision. I cannot do much about it but to honour the commitment. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country.”
