The Asia Cup is going to happen from 31 August to 17 September 2023. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) approved the hybrid model that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed earlier. Now, four matches will happen in Pakistan while the other nine matches will take place in Sri Lanka. However, this will be the first time when Nepal will play the Asia Cup as they qualified for the tournament by defeating UAE in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final by seven wickets.

But, on 17 June, when the official broadcaster released the promo for the tournament, all players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan were on the promo. Even, three India players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya are on the promo. But, no Nepal players were featured and hence, fans slammed the broadcaster on social media.

Speaking of the tournament, it will be the first time in 15 years that Pakistan will host a multi-nation tournament on their home soil. PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi was elated and in an official statement, he said: “I am elated that our hybrid version for the ACC Asia Cup 2023 has been accepted. This means the PCB will remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan.”

“In this background, the hybrid model was the best solution and that’s precisely why I advocated for it so strongly. The acceptance of the hybrid model means the event will take place as originally planned, the ACC will stay together and united, and the great game of cricket will continue to thrive and move forward in what will be interesting and exciting times for the subcontinent cricket fans in the coming 20 months. I appreciate the efforts of ACC President Jay Shah to strengthen the council so that we can collectively continue to protect each other’s interests and also provide opportunities and platforms to emerging Asian nations,” he further added.
