Pakistan and Tim Southee-led New Zealand are competing against each other in the second Test that kicked off on January 2, Monday and on Day 5, Friday, it was the Pakistani wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed who stole the show with his great-hearted century. To add more, when the rest of the team struggled to keep up against the Kiwi wrath, it was the right-handed batter who tied the strings together, inching the team closer to an epic win.

Sarfaraz scripted a perfect return as the batter was brought back into the Test setup for the first Test against the Black Caps, given that he played last played a Test match in January 2019, fans opined that he missed a great century in the initial contest, although the batter scored a valuable 86.

One has to agree that the veteran managed to set things right and reach the three-figure landmark on a much better occasion, during Pakistan’s chase of 319. Pakistan were reeling at 80/5 at one point, until Sarfaraz took the match in his hands and brought the team back into the game, eventually pushing the team into tea on the final day, without losing a wicket.

The Pakistani team were reeling at 245/6 post tea, 74 runs away from the win, with Sarfaraz unbeaten at 106 and Agha Salman at 15. Fans awaited the epic moment as they were rattled by back-to-back defeats and notably, England crushed Pakistan 0-3 in their own backyard, letting the Pakistani team taste their first-ever whitewash at home in their 75-year history.

“Babar gave me a lot of confidence as a senior player and carried me with great determination as I also needed confidence at that time. I was sad but then I thought it would have been worse had I got out for a duck and I’m grateful. I used to ponder if I would ever play my 50th Test. When I got to know yesterday that I was going to play, it got me really excited,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying after his outing in the first Test which ended in a draw.
