During the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, KL Rahul emerged as the target in the eyes of Indian cricket fans. Throughout the tournament, the Indian opener received criticism for his timid batting approach, particularly in the powerplay. He did manage two half-centuries, but both came against weaker opponents like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Even in those matches, his batting recalled red-ball cricket rather than the shortest format.

Rahul failed in all three major matches against stronger bowling attacks, scoring four, nine, and five points, respectively, against Pakistan, South Africa, and England. Many fans believe his selfish batting, in which he prioritised his individual score over the team's overall goal, was a major reason India was eliminated from the tournament.

Since then, fans have been displeased with the Karnataka batter and have urged management to bring in someone who can bat freely without fear of the results. Rahul is currently on a break, but he has become the brunt of social media jokes thanks to an old video shot during the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

The interviewer asked the 30-year-old to rate various aspects of his batting in the video, to which he replied, "I'll be modest," and everyone expected the opener to be honest with himself. Despite his assurances that he would be modest, Rahul went on to rate himself aggressively, giving himself 90 or higher in almost every category.

The right-handed gave himself an 80 on power. He does not rely on strength but rather on timing to clear the ropes. So it could be said that it was a genuine start. Rahul then gave himself a score of 95 for the stroke range. He rated himself 80 against spin, but it was his rating against pace that irritated fans. People couldn't stop laughing when he gave himself a 90.

In the meantime, he became the centre of all jokes for his video. "Bhagwan se to dar (Be fearful of the Almighty),” wrote one fan. “Life mein aisa hi over confidence chahiye kasam se (I want this kind of over-confidence in my life),” tweeted another.
