Ben Duckett is the best all-format batter in international cricket right now: Michael Vaughan

Former England captain and commentator Michael Vaughan has reckoned the England top-order batter Ben Duckett is the best all-format batsman in international cricket at the moment. His comments came right after the batter’s 149-run knock in the fourth innings of the Leeds Test, which propelled England to a historic five-wicket win over India to start the series 1-0.

Furthermore, Vaughan stated that Duckett doesn’t get the credit he deserves in the national team. Though there are batters like Travis Head or Aiden Markram, who are also doing well across formats, Vaughan feels Duckett is slightly ahead of them at the moment. 

"At the heart of this win was Ben Duckett. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves in this team. Pound for pound, I reckon he is the best all-format batsman in international cricket right now. There may be players who are better at one of the formats, but none of them are as good at all three. Others in the conversation would be Travis Head or Aiden Markram, but on current form I’d have Ben over them, especially as he does it in such a tough position, opening, across all formats," Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

Also, Vaughan asserted that the English think tank team shouldn’t make any changes for the second Test and go ahead with the winning combination. Notably, England might bring Jofra Archer into the XI as he was recently seen playing County Cricket. However, Vaughan is against the idea of disturbing the combination.

“I really hope they aren’t pencilling in names this early. Don’t rotate for the sake of it. What’s the rush, when these guys have been injured and will have played so little cricket? And for who?" Vaughan asked.

The second Test between England and India starts on Wednesday, July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
