The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are upset as the relationship between head coach Gautam Gambhir and veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is breaking down severely.

Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were seemingly pushed out of the Indian Test team after Gautam Gambhir took over as Indian team head coach from Rahul Dravid. Yes, they were struggling with form but expected backing from the head coach and team management, given their stature and history.

However, Gambhir had claimed that he wanted the star culture to end in the Indian team dressing room, and Kohli and Rohit’s Test retirements were a result of his ideology. And a report has now claimed that the relationship between Gambhir, Kohli, and Rohit isn't ideal by any means.

A Dainik Jagran report claims that head coach Gautam Gambhir's connection with Kohli and Rohit has changed since he took over as India's head coach from Rahul Dravid. According to the report, the relationship between the coach and the two mainstays is actually becoming chilly.

"The relations between Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma aren't as good as they should be, and there could be a meeting regarding the future of the two players. This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam—venues for the second and third ODIs," Jagran quoted a BCCI source as saying.

According to the source, Rohit and Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI head of selection, did not get along well during the Australia ODIs.

Following their retirement from the Test format, Kohli and Rohit played their maiden ODI series with Australia. Although Kohli had trouble at the beginning, suffering twin ducks in the first two games, he recovered in the third, which was also the match in which Rohit scored a hundred.

As the South African One-Day Internationals begin, the connection between Kohli and Gambhir has become the buzz of the town, with few talks taking place.

The current situation, however, is far from ideal for the BCCI, with head coach Gambhir's public trashing on social media upsetting senior management.

"During the Australia series, Rohit and Agarkar did not interact at all. Between then and now, even Kohli and Gambhir haven't spoken much to each other. Besides, the manner in which fans of Kohli and Rohit are attacking Gambhir on social media has made the BCCI upset," the report asserted.

It remains to be seen how BCCI manages to get everyone on the same page, as Rohit and Kohli have shown that they are in top form with the bat and in fitness as well.
