Team India skipper Shubman Gill is most likely to be ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa after being ruled out of the three-match ODI series due to a neck injury, which he sustained during the first Test against the Proteas in Kolkata.
While he didn’t come out to bat in the second innings of the Kolkata Test, he was eventually admitted to a nearby hospital and was forced to miss out on the ongoing second Test in Guwahati. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant has been named as the stand-in captain in his absence.
A fresh report published on the PTI website has suggested that Gill has been given an injection to have fewer symptoms and will need some time to start rehab, training, and skill work before he gets back to cricketing action.
"Gill has been given an injection to alleviate his symptoms and will need a period of rest before starting rehab, training, and skill work. There is every chance he could also be doubtful for the T20I series,” the BCCI source said, as reported by PTI.
On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa. KL Rahul was appointed as the stand-in captain.
While Tilak Varma, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been included in the ODI squad, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill have been excluded. The three-match ODI series will commence on Sunday, November 30, in Ranchi.
After the conclusion of the ODI series, the action moves to the five-match T20I series, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, December 9, in Cuttack.
India's ODI squad vs South Africa: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (C) (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Dhruv Jurel.
