On Wednesday, December 3, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a strong 15-man squad for the forthcoming South Africa series, scheduled to start on Tuesday, December 9, in Cuttack.

Interestingly, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya are all set to make their return to international cricket. While Gill was sidelined due to a neck spasm, Pandya was ruled out of the action due to a quadriceps injury.

Notably, Gill suffered a neck spasm during the first Test of the two-match series against South Africa, which saw him out of the action for the remainder of the Test series and the ongoing three-match ODI series vs the Proteas.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya will return to competitive cricket for the first time since picking up a quadriceps injury during the Asia Cup 2025 campaign in September. He wasn’t part of the Australian limited-overs series Down Under and missed the ongoing three-match ODI series vs South Africa.

Speaking about the changes in the T20I squad, finisher Rinku Singh found no place in the side. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah makes his return after being rested for the ODI series against South Africa.

Along with Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana have been picked, forming the pace battery. Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar are the three spinners, while Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been selected as wicketkeepers.

Note: Shubman Gill’s participation depends on the fitness clearance from the BCCI COE.
