On Thursday, September 25, the All India Men's Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced India's Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against West Indies starting October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This two-match Test series against West Indies will be India’s second assignment in the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, having levelled their first Test series 2-2 against England in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The 15-man squad will be led by Shubman Gill, while Ravindra Jadeja will act as his deputy. Notably, the Shubman Gill-led team is currently placed third in the WTC standings, behind Australia and Sri Lanka.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to open the batting, while Sai Sudharsan is likely to occupy the No.3 slot with Gill continuing his No.4 position. Meanwhile, Karun Nair has been dropped after a poor run on the England tour, and left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal has returned after his brilliance against Australia A.
On the other hand, Dhruv Jurel will be India’s first-choice option with the gloves, while Narayan Jagadeesan will be his backup. The spin attack will have Jadeja along with Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav as the lone specialist spinner.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna form the pace battery while Nitish Kumar Reddy is the sole medium pace bowling all-rounder in the 15-man squad.
