Ahead of the Dhaka Premier League, Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that heavy penalties will be levied on the players, officials and franchises if they don’t follow the COVID protocols set by the BCB. According to Cricbuzz, 12 teams will enter the bubble in four hotels, Sonargaon, Four Seasons, Intercontinental and Lakeshore on May 29, two days before the tournament gets underway.
Ali Hossain, secretary of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis said that players and officials can face suspension if they don’t abide by the rules.
“Points can be deducted while there is a provision of fines including suspension of players/officials if bio-bubble is breached,” said Ali Hossain, secretary of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM).
“We have a COVID-19 disciplinary committee and they will look after the matter and make a decision in this regard according to the clause mentioned by us for the teams,” he added.
Hossain further revealed that players who earn more than BDT 10 lakh will face a 20% deduction in their payment. This was done to reduce the burden on clubs amidst the ravaging COVID-19 situation.
“Players earning more than BDT 10 lakh in DPL will have a 20 percent reduction as you all know that it’s hard to bear all the expenses during the time of corona. We have spoken with the cricketers and they are ready to accept it,” Hossain explained.
Around 300 players and officials underwent the COVID-19 test ahead of the season and nine among them yielded positive results. The players will go through another COVID-19 test on May 29 before entering the bubble.
