The ongoing 11th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) got underway on Sunday (December 5). Five matches have been completed so far and already the league has produced one of the moments of the competition. Match number three of the BBL between Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers saw Jake Fraser- McGurk grab headlines due to his phenomenal display of athleticism on the field.

Strikers' Jake Weatherald powerfully timed the ball and anticipated it going over the ropes for a maximum. However, Fraser- McGurk adjusted and timed the jump perfectly to take a one-handed stunner. Weatherald, onlookers and commentators were left stunned by the teenager’s stunning catch near the boundary rope.

Commenter Brendon Julian, who watched the action unfold termed the catch as one of the greatest ever outfield catches he has seen. “What a catch!” former Australian fast bowler Brendon Julian said on Fox Cricket.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Brad Haddin also agreed to Julian’s comments and said “That’s one of the best outfield catches you’ll ever see,” Haddin said. “One hand. What a catch. He’s set up like an Aussie rules mark. He’s come in, he’s timed his jump to perfection and that’s just great athleticism,” he added.

As cliché as it may sound, catches win you matches. Fraser- McGurk’s splendid display on the field resulted in a two-run victory for Renegades. Had that catch not been taken, the story might have been different. The Renegades player’s catch has been shared all over social media.
