Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday (December 16) confirmed that the five Big Bash League Matches (BBL), set to be played in Perth, will now be relocated to other venues. The decision was taken because of strict border controls due to COVID-19 norms and protocols. Perth Scorchers, who were supposed to play at their home game on December 20 against Hobart Hurricanes, will now be playing at Blundstone Arena.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash League said. “We understand this is a disappointing decision for the Scorcher’s passionate fanbase, but in the current environment, we want to provide certainty for members, fans, players, match officials, and staff. While our preference was to play these matches in Perth, this was simply not possible under the current arrangements when all factors are taken into account,” Dobson said, according to Perth Now.

Dobson also thanked the Scorchers for understanding the gravity of the issue. He also appreciated the efforts of other affected clubs, broadcasters, and venues for showing their flexibility. “Our thanks go to the Scorchers for their understanding in these difficult circumstances. We are also grateful to all other affected Clubs, partners, broadcasters, and venues for their ongoing flexibility as we navigate our way through the season.”

Scorchers have been outstanding in the BBL 2021. They have won all their three games so far. The team is placed second on the points table. They played only one match in Perth against Brisbane Heat.
