Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka – 1st ODI – Preview, Playing XI, Pitch Report & Updates

Sri Lanka will kick off their Bangladesh ODI tour at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on 23rd May. Both teams have been very inconsistent of late. They have managed to win their home series but have struggled away from home. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh succumbed to defeats in their previous series. While Bangladesh were annihilated by New Zealand, Sri Lanka went down to West Indies.

The Tamim Iqbal led side has been bolstered by the return of their ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, handed their reigns to Kusal Perera while dropping senior players like Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne.

In addition to Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah add a lot of quality to Bangladesh's batting. Also, they have a perfect blend of pace and spin in their bowling department. For Sri Lanka, they rely a lot on Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva. If the trio fails to score, Sri Lanka are bound to struggle. Also looking at their bowling, they are definitely short on quality. They'll be banking on the spin duo of Akila Dananjaya and Wanindu Hasaranga, their premier spinners to do the job for them.

Comparing both teams, Bangladesh looks far more stable and have plenty of depth with quality all-rounders at their disposal. It will be interesting to see how Kusal Perera leads his inexperienced troop. 

Pitch Report - The surface should be a good cricketing wicket. We don't expect it to offer too much to the pacers but spinners will have a big role to play. The wicket could get slower as the game progresses which can make chasing a stiff job.
