Due to an international series against New Zealand, Bangladeshi players could not be fully available for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In April 2026, Bangladesh will play six white-ball matches versus New Zealand, coinciding with a portion of the IPL season.
Therefore, if they are chosen for the national squad, several Bangladeshi players would have to skip some of the competition. This development takes place right before the highly anticipated IPL mini auction, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Bangladesh players’ IPL availability in doubt
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made an effort to allay worries. The BCB's chairman of cricket operations, Nazmul Abedin, stated that the board is open to flexibility.
"We will give them NOC for most parts of IPL because we want them to play as much as possible so we will bring them for minimum requirement (for the white-ball series against New Zealand)," BCB cricket operation told Cricbuzz on Sunday.
During a pre-auction meeting in Abu Dhabi, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will notify IPL teams about the availability of foreign players.
The entire auction price will still be applied to the team's pay cap even if a player is sidelined for a portion of the season, per BCCI regulations. The BCCI will provide expected availability information for these players to aid teams in making better plans.
"For the purposes of this Player Auction, a player's expected unavailability for part of the IPL 2026 season will be ignored. The full amount of the annual League Fee bid (assuming 100% availability) will be deducted from the Salary Cap. However, to assist Franchisees in determining their strategy, BCCI will give an expected availability for each relevant player for the IPL 2026 season," the BCCI communique on auction rules states.
Base prices for the seven Bangladeshi players mentioned in the auction range from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 2 crore. IPL teams are most likely to be interested in Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm fast bowler.
Mustafizur (base price Rs 2 crore), Rishad Hossain (Rs 75 lakh), Taskin Ahmed (Rs 75 lakh), Tanzim Hasan Sakib (Rs 75 lakh), Nahid Rana (Rs 75 lakh), Rakibul Hasan (Rs 30 lakh) and Md Shoriful Islam (Rs 75 lakh) have made it to the final list of the auction register.
