Bangladesh were Jolted by a massive blow after their ace all rounder Shakib al Hasan was ruled out from the second Test against West Indies in Dhaka. As his replacement, the hosts have named Soumya Sarkar in the squad for the next game that gets underway from February 11. A magnificent double hundred on debut by Kyle Mayers helped West Indies snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat in the 1st Test of the series.

Shakib didn’t bowl in the second inning of the first Test and it was evident that his injury is not a minor one and the scans confirmed the same. He picked up a groin injury in the third ODI against Bangladesh and was in serious doubt for the first Test. However, he was declared match fit and featured in the Test series opener. Unfortunately, he picked up another injury in the match and was ruled out for the second Test.

He was making a comeback after serving a 12 month ban imposed by the ICC. Shakib was found guilty of three charges under the ICC’s Anti -Corruption Code and was banned for a year by the apex body. His last Test was against Afghanistan in September 2019. The all rounder looked in prime form and starred for the hosts in the ODI series. In the first inning of the 1st Test, he fetched himself a half century .

His replacement Soumya Sarkar is still in his early days in Test cricket. The Southpaw has represented Bangladesh in 15 Tests and averages just over 29 with one century and four half centuries.
