The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the squad for the T20 World Cup, set to be played in UAE and Oman from October 17. There are no major surprises as all 15 members have been picked from the Tigers' squad for the ongoing New Zealand T20I series and their five-match T20I series against Australia last month.

Experienced opener Tamim Iqbal might have been in contention but the southpaw made himself unavailable for the showpiece event. Also, 21-year-old Aminul Islam Biplob, who was expected to be included in the squad, has been ignored. However, the leg spinner has been named as one of the standby players along with pacer Rubel Hossain. All senior players, including Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, expectedly have been added. The team will be led by Mahmudullah.

The Tigers have included four fast bowlers - Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin and Shoriful Islam, in their squad. It must be noted that Bangladesh will have to go through a qualifying round to fix a berth in the Super 12s. They are clubbed with Scotland, Papua New Guinea and hosts Oman in Group B.

Bangladesh has been in some fine form of late and picked up series wins over Australia and New Zealand. However, the surfaces during the series have been in question. The wickets have been far too sluggish, and as expected, the visitors have struggled to get going.

Nevertheless, two back to back series wins would have given a lot of confidence to Bangladesh and they’ll be hoping to have some favourable outings in the World Cup. The conditions in UAE and Oman will be quite similar to that of Bangladesh thus the Tigers will back themselves to put up a strong show in the tournament.

Bangladesh squad for T20 World Cup - Mahmudullah (C), Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Afif Hossain, Mohammad Naim, Nurul Hasan, Shamim Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Shoriful Islam, Taijul Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Aminul Islam, Nasum Ahmed.
