The third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going kick off on 1 March 2023. Pat Cummins went back to Australia after the Delhi Test for personal reasons. Hence, Steve Smith is going to lead the Aussies in this match. Smith has been in poor form so far in this series with the bat.

In four innings so far, Smith has scored 71 runs. So, it will be a huge Test for Steve Smith both as an individual batter and the skipper. Meanwhile, the pitch has been in the headlines since the start of this series. The renowned Australian news channel, ‘Fox Cricket’ accused team India of doctoring the Nagpur pitch before the series opener.

“I’m excited about leading this week in Pat’s absence.” – Steve Smith

They shared some pictures and claimed that the Men in Blue deliberately made the pitch in such a way that the pitch will suit the Indian spinners more. Before that match, while speaking to the reporters, Steve Smith said: “Pretty dry, particularly one end. I think it will take a bit of spin, particularly the left-arm spinner taking it into our left-handers.”

“There’s a section there that’s quite dry. Other than that, I can’t really get a good gauge on it. I don’t think there will be a heap of bounce in the wicket, I think it will be quite skiddy for the seamers and maybe a bit of up-and-down movement as the game goes on. The cracks felt quite loose. I’m not entirely sure – we’ll wait and see,” Smith further added.

However, all Aussie batters failed miserably while facing the spin trio of team India in the last two matches. So, it will be another huge test for Steve Smith and his men. Speaking about leadership during in the Indore Test, Steve Smith said: “It normally brings the best out of me. I’m excited about leading this week in Pat’s absence. I know these conditions well. It’s kind of like my second home playing over here, I’ve played a lot in India, I understand the intricacies of the game and what the wickets are likely to do. I’m looking forward to it.” Now, an image has gone viral where Smith was seen monitoring the pitch closely ahead of the Test. So, fans came up with some funny tweets in order to troll the star batter.
