The Indian team on Sunday won the 2nd ODI  against Australia at Indore by 99 runs. This win gave their first series win against Australia in ODI Cricket since 2017. Team India also extended their winning run at the Holkar Stadium with their 7th win.

Constant rain stoppages meant that the game was reduced to 33-over affair. Australia had to chase down 317 to win. The Australians were all out for 217 as the Indian bowlers showed their class.

The final game at Rajkot has become a mere formality with nothing riding in it for either teams. With the ODI World Cup around the corner, the Indian cricket management has made a bold call.

Rajkot will host the final ODI between India and Australia on 27th September. The Indian cricket management has given rest to Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur. As per reports it is to keep the duo fresh for the ODI World Cup. India will play their first game on 8th October against Australia at Chennai.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had been rested for the games at Mohali and Indore. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah too was given the game off on Sunday. Prasidh Krishna came in for the 29-year-old while Mukesh Kumar replaced Bumrah in the squad.

The trio will be back for the Rajkot ODI as they gear up for the upcoming ODI World Cup. The injury status of Axar Patel is still up in the air and the Indian Board only has till 28th September to take a call.

Shubman Gill, on Sunday, scored his 6th ODI ton for India and went past 1200 runs for the year. The right-handed batter scored 104 runs from 97 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes. This was his 2nd century at this ground this year. Gill had already scored a ton against New Zealand earlier this year.

Shardul Thakur meanwhile had a game to forget. The 31-year-old conceded 35 runs from his four overs without taking a wicket. Thakur also dropped an easy chance towards the back end of the game. The fans will hope the all-rounder can pick his form before the ODI World Cup.
