Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been one of the most consistent players in world cricket in recent years. He also has found a place in the top rankings in the International Cricket Council (ICC) batters’ rankings in both, T20Is, as well as ODIs. Apart from international cricket, Babar has created a name for himself in county cricket.

In a fan survey done ahead of the upcoming T20 Blast, the batting sensation was voted Somerset's best-ever T20 player. According to Cricket Pakistan, Babar Azam received an honourable mention for his outstanding performance for the prestigious cricket club in the past. Azam, who represented Somerset in the 2020 edition, had a fantastic run in which he scored 218 runs in seven innings at an average of 36.33. He even hit a century against Glamorgan.

In the meantime, Azam will not take a part in the upcoming T20 Blast 2022 to fulfil his national duties. However, the 27-year-old has accomplished a remarkable feat of 5000 T20 runs while playing for Somerset, becoming only the third-fastest batsman to reach the milestone, behind batting legends Chris Gayle and Shaun Marsh.

He was one of the most expensive and sought-after players in The Hundred draft that was held last month as well. However, he refused to participate in the second edition of the tournament due to personal reasons. Babar would now be focusing more on international cricket with a tight 12-month schedule for Pakistan, which will also see them playing in two multi-nation tournaments- Asia Cup (August-September) and the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, which will be played later this year.

In the meantime, Pakistan is preparing to play the West Indies for a three-match One-Day International series. The series will begin on June 8th, with all three matches taking place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Babar has begun daily net practice at the HPC in preparation for the next international season. In the meanwhile, the PCB has invited about 60 players in two batches to attend two-week conditioning camps.
