The seventh game of the Deodhar Trophy featured East Zone taking on North Zone in Cricket Association Puducherry Ground 3. East Zone won the toss and elected to bat first on a decent track. However, they succumbed to a batting collapse and were reduced to 57/5 within 15.6 overs. Abhimanyu Easwaran (10 off 16), Utkarsh Singh (11 off 20), Virat Singh (2 off 7), Subhranshu Senapati (13 off 17), and skipper Saurabh Tiwary (16 off 30) failed to impress as it seemed East Zone would be restricted to a modest total.

However, Rajasthan Royals and Assam allrounder Riyan Parag had slightly different ideas. He was supported in the rescue mission by Kumar Kushagra who was extremely unlucky to miss out on his century as he had to depart for 98 off 87 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. But, before his dismissal the duo had already scored 253 runs, getting the team total to 292/6 from 57/5. In the second delivery following his dismissal centurion Riyan Parag also had to depart after a match-saving knock of 131 off 102 balls, including five fours and eleven mammoth sixes.

North Zone need 338 runs to win in 50 overs

Quickfire cameos from Shahbaz Ahmed – 16* off 7, including two fours and one six, and Manisarkar Murasingh – 25 off 14, including two fours and a six, boosted East Zone to 337/8 in 50 overs. This is the highest total so far in the tournament. Talking of the bowling from North Zone. Mayank Yadav remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/63 in 10 overs. Harshit Rana followed him closely with 3/60 in 10 overs whereas Sandeep Sharma scalped one but remained extremely expensive, conceding 89 runs in his 10 overs.

South Zone and East Zone are currently leading the table with two wins from two games yielding them eight points. A higher net run rate sees South Zone on top of the table with East Zone breathing down their neck at second position. West Zone are third with four points, courtesy of a win and a loss. At the same time, Central Zone, North East Zone, and North Zone are yet to open their accounts.
