A three-match ODI series between Australia and South Africa will be played from August 19 to 24 in Australia. The first match will be held in Cairns, while the next two games will take place in Mackay.
Currently, both teams are involved in a three-match T20I series against each other. It has been a tight contest so far, with the series level at 1-1 after two games. The decider will be played in Cairns on August 15.
For the ODIs, Australia have suffered three injury setbacks. Matt Short (side strain), Mitch Owen (concussion) and all-rounder Lance Morris (back issues) have been ruled out. Their replacements are spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, pacer Aaron Hardie and all-rounder Cooper Connolly.
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will also miss the series. Both have been rested to manage their workload ahead of the upcoming Ashes at home later this year. Mitchell Marsh will lead the Australian side.
For South Africa, the focus will be on players like Dewald Brevis, Ryan Rickelton and Nandre Burger. Temba Bavuma will captain the team.
The Australia–South Africa rivalry has been one of the most evenly balanced in ODI history. Out of 110 ODIs so far, South Africa have won 55 times, while Australia have won 51. Three matches have ended in a tie and one in no result.
Even in Australia, the record is almost identical. In 39 ODIs played there, both teams have won 19 games each, with one ending in a tie. Hence, another exciting ODI series between these two sides await fans.
