Australia announces squad for Champions Trophy 2025

Cricket Australia on Monday named the strong national squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to start on February 19. Pat Cummins will continue to lead the ODI side at the 50-over showpiece event.

Australia, the team that won two titles in this 50-over event, has snubbed the opener Jake Fraser-McGurk after a series of poor scores. Matt Short and Aaron Hardie have received their maiden national call-ups for an ICC event.

Nathan Ellis, the Hobart Hurricanes skipper had an exceptional BBL 2024-25 season, storming his side to the tournament's finals, and has earned a call-up to the side. David Warner (retired), Cameron Green (back surgery), and Sean Abbott are the three players who were part of the previous ICC event that made way for Ellis, Short, and Hardie.

Australia has been part of Group B alongside Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. All their matches will be played in Pakistan at Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Josh Hazlewood (calf) and all-rounder Mitch Marsh (axed) are all set to return for the Champions Trophy after missing out on the selection for the Sri Lankan tour for Tests.

This same ODI squad will take on Sri Lanka in one-off 50-over international game in Hambantota, which will act as the side’s lone warm-up fixture leading to the tournament opener against England on February 22.

"This is a balanced and experienced squad with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year's successful tour of the UK, and the more recent Pakistan home series," Chief selector George Bailey told media.
