Australia are going to take on India in the World Test Championship final from 7-11 June 2023 at the Oval, England. It will be the second consecutive year that India will have a chance to win this trophy. However, in their first attempt, they lost to New Zealand in the final. On the other hand, the Aussies will look to win the final.
However, recently these teams played against each other in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. The Men in Blue won the series by 2-1. Now, for the first two Ashes Tests and the WTC Final, Australia announced their 17-man squad. Pat Cummins will lead the team while Steve Smith will be his deputy.

Speaking of the squad, David Warner managed to get a place despite having a poor run of form with the bat in the recent games in the longer format. Several players like Marcus Harris, Josh Inglis, and Mitchell Marsh earned a recall to the team. However, Cameron Bancroft failed to get a place despite scoring the most runs in the Marsh Sheffield Shield. Apart from him, notable exclusions from the squad that visited India for the Test series are Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Swepson, Ashton Agar, and Peter Handscomb.
Australia’s squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vc), Mitchell Starc, and David Warner.
About the squad, the national selection panel chair George Bailey said: "The World Test Championship is the culmination of more than two years of consistent performance at Test level by the team and the individuals involved, leading into an Ashes series which is always highly anticipated. The UK is a very different assignment from our most recent tour of India and some of the changes are based upon the conditions we are anticipating. Marcus (Harris), Josh (Inglis, reserve keeper) and Mitch (Marsh) return to the squad and will provide valuable depth and flexibility within their respective skillsets. We see value in revisiting the squad following the second Ashes Test given the short turnaround between the WTC Final and the first Ashes Test, along with the length of the tour."
Here is how fans have reacted to the announced squad of Australia for the WTC Final:
