‘Aur ek Title hat se gaya’ - Fans slam Ravi Shastri for suggesting KL Rahul as wicketkeeper for team India in WTC Final against Australia

Team India defeated Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 by 2-1. Even, though they qualified for the final of WTC as Sri Lanka suffered a loss in the first Test against the Kiwis. However, KL Rahul was in the headlines throughout the series as he failed to score big in two matches.

He scored just 38 runs in three innings and did not get a place in the last two matches. However, Rahul silenced his critics in the first ODI against the Aussies as he scored 75* runs. Now, after such a performance, the former team India coach, Ravi Shastri came up with a unique suggestion for Rohit Sharma regarding KL Rahul for the WTC final.

“He can cement his place in that Indian team" - Ravi Shastri on KL Rahul

While talking on air for Star Sports during the first ODI, Ravi Shastri said: "He has really done well to keep the selectors interested ahead of the WTC final. Two things, one for the ODI series when Rohit Sharma returns and the other for the WTC final. India can bolster their batting if Rahul can keep wickets.”

“Rahul can bat in the middle-order No. 5 or No. 6. in England, you have to generally keep wickets from far behind. You don’t have to keep up with the spinners a lot. He has 3 more ODIs to go before the Indian T20 League. He can cement his place in that Indian team," Shastri concluded. KL Rahul looked good as a keeper in the first match as he saved some crucial runs while taking a brilliant catch while diving. 

Meanwhile, in the recently concluded Test series, Srikar Bharat played as the wicketkeeper. So, fans were not happy with such a statement from the former team India player. Some fans claimed that it will be an injustice to Bharat. While some claimed that his inclusion might affect the balance in the team and that can cost the title to the Men in Blue. After losing the WTC final of the inaugural season against the Kiwis, Rohit Sharma and his men will look to win the final this time around against the Aussies.
