According to reports, the Indian Cricket Board and the Apex Cricket Body have turned down the Pakistan Cricket Board's plea to change the locations for its ODI World Cup 2023 league matches. The ODI World Cup of 2023 is slated to take place in India in October and November, and the two bitter rivals will face off there. Pakistan has already asked for the matches against Australia and Afghanistan to be played at a different location.

The matches in question are Pakistan vs Australia in Bengaluru and Pakistan vs Afghanistan in Chennai. PCB wants to avoid Afghanistan in spin-friendly Chepauk Stadium and Australia in batting-heaven M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, in a joint meeting on Tuesday night, the cricket’s governing body and the Indian Cricket Board officially rejected PCB’s request for not offering a valid reason to swap venues.

“Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai are the two which we should look to get changed as much as possible. Ideally, we can switch these around. Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Bengaluru would make us obvious favourites in both matches,” a source was quoted as saying by Inside Sports.

The first match of the ODI World Cup likely to be played between NZ and ENG

Notably, the official ODI World Cup schedule has not yet been made public. The Indian Cricket Board provided the cricket boards with a draught schedule earlier, and a final calendar is expected to be released the following week. The aforementioned action will be taken during a Mumbai event. The first game of the tournament will take place on October 5 in Ahmedabad between England and New Zealand, the winners of the 2019 World Cup.

India will play Australia in Chennai on October 8 in the tournament's opening game. On October 11 in Delhi, the Men in Blue will then play Afghanistanin the second game. The thrilling match between India and Pakistan will take place on October 15 in Ahmedabad. Like in 2019, there will be 10 teams competing against one another in a round-robin stage.
