Auqib Nabi, a pacer from Jammu and Kashmir, recently participated in tryouts with the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, suggesting that he would be included to their team.
The 29-year-old Nabi has risen quickly, particularly in red-ball cricket, where he took 44 wickets to finish as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy. In the current season, he continues to hold a similar position.
Nabi had a strong first-class record with 125 wickets from 36 matches, despite his mediocre T20 statistics of 28 wickets in 27 games at an average of 26.39.
According to reports, Nabi demonstrated his ability to bolster the Mumbai Indians' fast bowling lineup during the tryout, which was held at their Ghansoli facility. For MI, who have experienced their fair share of difficulties lately, Nabi might be an affordable and potential player.
The player from Jammu and Kashmir has also been in excellent form this year, and it appears that he will find a team in the next mini auction. Although Nabi has never played in the IPL, he was previously a net bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad and most recently went to tryouts with the Delhi Capitals.
Although there are a number of teams vying for Auqib Nabi, MI may have an advantage in the auction.
The Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders would all be eager to sign the J&K pacer, who has been developing rapidly. Going into the IPL 2026 auction, KKR and CSK do have a substantial budget, and following a lengthy list of releases, they would be looking to add new players ahead of the upcoming season.
