Pakistan secured their place in the ‘Super 4’ stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 with a 41-run win over the UAE in Dubai on September 17. With this victory, they joined India in qualifying from Group A.
After being put in to bat first, Pakistan had another shaky start as young opener Saim Ayub’s poor run continued. The left-hander registered his third consecutive duck of the tournament, while Sahibzada Farhan also fell cheaply for just five. Skipper Salman Ali Agha then combined with Fakhar Zaman for a 61-run stand for the third wicket.
Agha scored 20 off 27, while Fakhar looked fluent with a 36-ball 50. However, Pakistan suffered a sudden collapse, slipping from 86/3 to 110/7. At that stage, it looked like they might not even cross 120. But Shaheen Shah Afridi stepped up with a quickfire 29* off 14 balls to take the score to 146/9 in 20 overs.
For the UAE, Junaid Siddique starred with the ball, finishing with four wickets. Simranjeet Singh impressed as well with three, while Dhruv Parashar picked up one.
Let’s take a look at the UAE’s Chase
In reply, the UAE’s chase never really gained momentum. Openers Alishan Sharafu (12 off 8) and skipper Muhammad Waseem (14 off 15) got starts but could not carry on. Rahul Chopra fought hard with 35 off 35, while Dhruv Parashar added 20 off 23, but boundaries dried up and the required run rate kept climbing.
The pair shared a 48-run stand, but once they were dismissed, the UAE’s innings got derailed. From 85/3, they collapsed to 105 all out in 17.4 overs, losing their last seven wickets for just 20 runs.
For Pakistan, the bowlers delivered as Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets each. Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha also chipped in with one apiece. Shaheen was named Player of the Match for his crucial all-round performance, scoring vital runs at the end and striking with the ball.
With this win, Pakistan advanced to the Super 4 stage, setting up a high-voltage clash against arch-rivals India on September 21.
