The most thrilling match of the Asia Cup 2025 ended with India winning the game in the Super Over after the game had previously been tied between both sides. It was the most closely fought game in the competition so far, and so despite being a dead rubber, it provided the audience with plenty of entertainment.
Sri Lanka had previously won the toss and elected to bowl. Abhishek had another masterclass to present. Continuing with his red-hot form, he smashed his third half-century in the tournament and that too consecutively. He was ultimately dismissed on 61 by the opposition skipper.
Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson played other significant knocks to keep India in the game and kept the run-rate maintained. Final finish by Axar Patel led team India to the highest total registered in this year’s Asia Cup so far, as they posted a total of 202 runs for five wickets.
Let’s take a look at Sri Lanka’s Chase
Losing a wicket in the very first over, Sri Lanka made a brilliant comeback with an amazing 127-run stand between Nissanka and Perera, where Perera smashed a half-century while Nissanka registered a ton to his name.
However, that is when the Indian bowlers started to pull the game back. They started taking wickets at regular intervals, and everyone except Axar got a wicket each. Fantastic finish from Shanaka meant Sri Lanka finished the full quota of overs on the same score as the Indian team, pushing the game into the Super Over.
Arshdeep bowled the Super Over from the Indian side and definitely bowled his best over of the day as he knocked both the wickets at the expense of just two runs. Having gotten a target of mere three runs, India chased it easily and won the game.
