Sri Lanka continued their winning momentum in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 as they defeated Hong Kong by four wickets in Dubai. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka asked Hong Kong to bat first, and they put up a decent total of 149/4 in 20 overs.

Nizakat Khan remained not out on 52 off 38, while Anshy Rath scored 48 off 46, and wicketkeeper-batter Zeeshan Ali added 23 off 17. For Sri Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera took two wickets, while both Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga bagged one wicket each.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis cheaply for 11 off 14. Both Kamil Mishara (19 off 18) and Kusal Perera (20 off 16) got starts but failed to convert them into big ones. Ultimately, it was Pathum Nissanka who shone as he scored 68 off 44, and an unbeaten nine-ball cameo of 20 runs from Hasaranga, striking at 222.22, ensured Sri Lanka’s second win of the competition with seven balls and four wickets to spare. 

Nissanka was also named the Player of the Match for his fifty. For Hong Kong, Yasim Murtaza bagged two wickets, while Ehsan Khan, Aizaz Khan, and Ayush Shukla chipped in with one wicket each.

With this win, Sri Lanka are now in the top spot of Group B with four points in two games and a net run rate of +1.546. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Asia Cup campaign came to an end. They finished winless in all three games. 

Sri Lanka’s next clash is against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on September 18. Afghanistan have played only one match so far and currently sit in the second spot with two points and a net run rate of +4.700.
