Bangladesh began the ‘Super 4’ stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 with a thrilling four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Dubai.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. Sri Lanka put up a total of 168/7 in 20 overs. They had a solid start with a 44-run opening partnership, but then suffered a mini-collapse, slipping to 65/3. Pathum Nissanka scored 22 off 15, while Kusal Mendis made 34 off 25. 

At number four, Kusal Perera scored 16 off 16, but it was Dasun Shanaka who stole the limelight. He struck an unbeaten 64 off 37 at a strike rate of 172.97. A 57-run stand between him and captain Charith Asalanka for the fifth wicket steadied the innings. Asalanka added 21 off 12 balls.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman bagged three wickets, Mahedi Hasan picked up two, while Taskin Ahmed took one.

In reply, Bangladesh had a shaky start, losing Tanzid Hasan for a two-ball duck. Skipper Litton Das and Saif Hassan then added 59 runs for the second wicket. Litton scored 23 off 16 before falling. Towhid Hridoy then joined Saif, and the pair put on 54 runs for the third wicket. 

Saif made 61 off 45 before getting out. Towhid carried on with Shamim Hossain, adding 45 runs for the fourth wicket. Hridoy scored 58 off 37, while Hossain remained unbeaten on 14 as Bangladesh chased down the target with one ball to spare.

For Sri Lanka, both Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga picked up two wickets each, while Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara chipped in with one apiece.

Saif Hassan was named the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution with the bat during the chase.
