Oman had a disappointing start to their Asia Cup 2025 campaign as Pakistan handed them a humiliating 93-run loss in their tournament opener. Despite a decent bowling performance in the first innings, it was the batting that collapsed completely for Oman while chasing the 161-run target. They got bundled out for just 67 runs in 16.4 overs.
The only positives from that batting performance were the 27-run knock from Hammad Mirza and a few contributions from Aamir Kaleem (13 off 11) and Shakeel Ahmed (10 off 23). They lost six wickets against Pakistan spinners, and now, going into their next clash against the UAE on September 15 in Abu Dhabi, they need to be more proactive against spin.
Meanwhile, along with those 13 runs with the bat, Kaleem also bagged three wickets. It was his three strikes which caused a mini-collapse for Pakistan as they were reduced from 89/1 to 102/4. Apart from him, Shah Faisal also picked up three wickets.
Hence, despite the batting collapse, it was still a decent outing against a strong team like the Men in Green. Oman are most likely to show faith in the same playing XI against the UAE.
In nine T20Is so far against the UAE, Oman have won four times, which shows that another evenly contested match awaits fans. Even Oman captain Jatinder Singh sounded positive about his bowlers’ performance and vowed to make a comeback by playing positive cricket in the upcoming games.
While speaking during the post-match presentation, Singh said: “Restricting them under 160, it was really good, really proud of the boys – the way they bowled and fielded. The boys were bang on target, they executed the plans they discussed, they were 10/10. Our team is a lot better than what we performed today, and confident that we can do a lot better (in the upcoming games). (Plans for the India game next week) To back ourselves and play positive cricket. Just be in the present and not think about who is bowling to you.”
Predicted Oman playing XI vs UAE
Aamir Kaleem, Jatinder Singh (c), Hammad Mirza, Vinayak Shukla (wk), Hassnain Shah, Shah Faisal, Mohammad Nadeem, Zikria Islam, Sufyan Mehmood, Shakeel Ahmed, Samay Shrivastava.
