Sri Lanka and Afghanistan locked horns in the inaugural match of the Asia Cup 2022. In the opening encounter of the 15th edition of the tournament, Afghanistan completely outplayed Sri Lanka and won the match with a massive margin of eight wickets on the backs of their brilliant bowling and batting performances in the match.

Both teams played this match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi won the toss and asked the Sri Lankans to bat first. The batting lineup of Sri Lanka collapsed completely and they got all-out only on the score of 105 runs in just 19.4 overs.

Afghanistan chased down the target only in 10.1 overs and won the match by a massive margin of eight wickets. The fans hailed Afghanistan for their commendable performance in the opening match against Sri Lanka. They also predicted that Afghanistan might be a danger for the big teams in the upcoming phase of the tournament.

Afghanistan dominated the Sri Lankan team in the entire phase of the match

Speaking of the match, then the Afghanistan bowlers completely dominated the match from the very first over of the match. They bundled up the official hosts of the tournament only on the small score of 105 runs in only 19.4 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi scalped three wickets for the team. Whereas skipper Mohammad Nabi claimed two wickets each along with 1 wicket scalped by Naveen-ul-Haq.

Chasing the target in the second innings, the opening pair of Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided a strong start for Afghanistan. They both made a partnership of 83 runs for the first wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz ended up as the highest scorer of the match with his 40-run knock along with crucial 37 runs from Hazratullah Zazai. Opening batter Hazratullah Zazai went unbeaten to cross the line for Afghanistan and they chased down the target only in 10.1 overs with almost 40 overs and eight wickets to spare.

Although, this match also witnessed controversy because of an umpiring decision at the time of Pathum Nissanka’s dismissal.
