Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar have requested their fans to raise funds for saving a two-year old Ayaansh Gupta, who is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The deadly disease requires immediate treatment with Zolgensma, the world’s most expensive medicine. The life expectancy of children suffering from the condition is less than 18 months.  At 2 years and 9 months, Ayaansh’s health is deteriorating quickly with his muscle weakening and losing all body functions. Ayaansh will need a therapy with Zolgensma, which is priced at INR 16 crore, to overcome the illness.

It’s not possible for a middle class family to arrange that sum thus they have sought crowdfunding options. So far they have raised almost 3.2 crores and will need another 12 crores to be able to afford the treatment. Lending a helping hand, Ravichandran Ashwin retweeted Ayaansh’s mother tweet and urged his followers to help the family. Ayaansh’s father was quick to respond and thanked Ashwin for his noble gesture. Washington Sundar also tweeted in favour of Ayaansh’s family and requested the masses to contribute in saving Ayaansh’s life.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar were in top form in the recently concluded India-England Test series. Ashwin, who accounted for 32 wickets in 4 Tests, bagged his eighth Player of the Tournament award while Sundar followed up his heroics in Brisbane with two top class knocks in the first and fourth Test.
