Meanwhile, Jhye Richardson is all set to play his third Test after featuring in two matches versus Sri Lanka in 2019. The pacer will replace Josh Hazlewood, who was ruled out of the game due to a side strain. Hazlewood’s fitness will be closely monitored by the management and a call on his participation in the Boxing Day Test will be taken later.

Meanwhile, for England, head coach Chris Silverwood has confirmed that James Anderson and Stuart Broad are fit for the second Ashes Test. The visitors copped a fair bit of criticism for not playing the veteran bowlers. It will be interesting to see if England bring one of Anderson and Broad, or both bowlers in the team. In the last few years, England have not played both pacers together to manage their workload.

England will be hoping to bounce back after losing the first Ashes Test by nine wickets. Barring the toss, nothing went in England's favour. The hosts got off to a dream start as Mitchell Starc became only the second bowler to pick a wicket on the first ball of the Ashes series. Starc dismissed Rory Burns for a duck. From there on, there was no looking back for Australia as they bowled out for 147.

The hosts’ batters posted a mammoth total of 425 on account of Travis Head’s epic century and later shot down England for just 297.
