As every young Indian cricketer, I wanted to be around MS Dhoni: Sanju Samson

Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson has revealed his aspirations of meeting the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni during his early cricketing days. Notably, Samson is all set to be traded to the Chennai Super Kings franchise for the IPL 2026 season.

Speaking exclusively on Star Sports, Samson asserted that as a young and budding cricketer, he always wanted to sit with MS Dhoni and talk to him about how he understands the game and achieve success.

"As every young Indian cricketer, I wanted to be around MS Dhoni. Every single time you meet him, every single time you know that you're going to play against CSK, it's like you want to sit with Mahi bhai, talk to him, understand how he does things. Even just sitting around him was a dream as a young cricketer," Samson said in a video posted by Star Sports on X.

Notably, Samson made his IPL debut in 2013 for the Rajasthan Royals. However, he got a chance to meet Dhoni during the IPL 2021 season at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium when he scored a 74-run knock off 32 balls against Chennai to take his side to a 16-run win.

The keeper-batter was adjudged the player of the match for his exceptional batting efforts and went on to meet the then CSK skipper after the match. He went on to add that after that meet-up, their relationship went upwards. 

"When I came to play the IPL, after the match, I thought of meeting him. But several people were already there to meet him. I went and met him in the 8th year of my IPL. I waited to help my side win a match against the CSK. I made some runs and won the POTM. After that, I went and met him. After that, my relationship has been going upwards. It has been a very blessed feeling. I have done shoots with him. It feels like a dream," Samson concluded.
