Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their India comeback in ODIs after seven months as the Men in Blue clashed with Australia in the first of the three ODIs. This match was played in Perth on October 19, 2025 and was marred by rain.

India lost the game by 7 wickets via DLS method. India scored 136/9 in 26 overs after losing first four wickets for 45 runs. Mitchell Marsh led the chase with 46*, while Josh Phillippe making 37.

Focus was on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with Rohit scoring 8 runs, while Kohli falling for a eight-ball duck.

However, colleague Arshdeep Singh thinks the former captain of India will soon have an impact on the current series.

He has played more than 300 matches (ODIs) for India, so form is just a word for him. He knows how to get going. It is always like a blessing to be in the same dressing room with him, and going forward, I feel there’ll be a lot of runs for him in this series as well,” Arshdeep Singh said at the post-match media conference in Perth.

Since retiring from Test and T20I cricket, Kohli and fellow veteran Rohit Sharma only play ODIs in the international arena. What's it like to play only one format?

“....talking about the format he is playing, he has mastered this one. So, I don’t know how he feels about it. I will ask him about his feelings, and maybe tell you in the next press conference, he added.

“I am feeling as fit”- Virat Kohli on his preparation for Australia ODIs

For his part, Kohli is eager to face the difficulties in Australia, a nation that helped mold him into the cricket player he is today.

I am feeling as fit, if not fitter, as I have ever been before and you can feel the freshness when you can play the game and mentally you know what to do out there. It’s just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of.

The Australian set up, how they played their cricket and how they were in your face all the time, intimidating and taking the game on, that was something that really inspired me to come here and do the same. That really tests your mental strength and resilience... I am really grateful to all those times because that shaped me as a cricketer and as a person as well,” Kohli told Fox Cricket.
