An umpire in South Australia arrested for controlling child abuse material

In a shocking piece of news, an umpire of the South Australian Cricket Association has been charged with controlling material of child abuse in his custody. The local police have initiated a probe into the case they will now work to make sure that all members will have to follow the Child Safety Act.

The 40-year-old individual has been slapped with offenses including online material of child abuse and having that in his control. Subsequently, he was arrested last week on the 11th of October, and currently, he is under judicial custody.

Upon notification, SACA immediately terminated the umpire's engagement - SACA spokesperson

Police will present him to the court on the 8th of November next month. The authorities will also charge him for failing to reveal his activities regarding the status of the children.

A SACA spokesperson has come up with a statement before that the association got to know about this arrest from the local police.

"This person has undertaken umpiring duties in SA, there is no suggestion that the offenses relate to cricket in South Australia or the participation of children in cricket. Upon notification, SACA immediately terminated the umpire's engagement. Parents and carers are being informed in line with Australian Cricket's Policy for Safeguarding Children and Young People. SACA is unable to provide further comment as the matter is now before the courts," said the SACA spokesperson in his statement.

South Australian police went on to say that they would jointly work with the sporting clubs in the southern region of Adelaide to make sure that ‘all club members had the appropriate working with children checks ahead of the weekend.’

The South Australian Cricket Association also suspended all the engagements of the accused umpire with the club. It doesn’t seem that club will continue to take his services further following this hearing on the current allegations of child abuse.
