Former Indian batter and commentator Ambati Rayudu took to X (formerly Twitter) to plead Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli not to retire from the longest format of the game. Notably, there were reports of Kohli’s retirement from Tests ahead of the England tour.
With India scheduled to travel to England for a five-match Test series in the new World Test Championship cycle, Virat Kohli’s experience would be extremely crucial for Team India in guiding them to victories.
Rayudu stated that the Indian batter has a lot left in his tank and the longest format of the game will not be the same without Kohli. Moreover, Rayudu wanted the Indian batting stalwart to reconsider his decision.
"Virat Kohli please don’t retire.. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India.. Please reconsider.." Rayudu said on X (Twitter).
Speaking about his stats, Kohli has played 210 innings in Tests, scoring 9230 runs at an exceptional average of 46.85 with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten knock of 254. Since making his Test debut in 2011, Kohli has won games for Team India home and away.
Importantly, the BCCI officials have given Kohli an option to reconsider his retirement decision, taking a few days' time to come up with the final decision. Fans and former cricketers would be eagerly waiting for Kohli’s ultimate decision.
"He is still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team. We've requested him to take some time before making a final call," said a senior BCCI official on condition of anonymity.
