“An eye for an eye”—Ambati Rayudu calls for de-escalation amidst India-Pakistan war

After Pakistan launched a barrage of drones, missiles, and heavy artillery fire on civilian and military targets Thursday night, the situation worsened. Even the PBKS v DC IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala was called off midway through the game due to the escalation. Players and fans were evacuated safely from the stadium.

Pakistan used drones on Thursday to attack areas in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. India's S-400 defense systems intercepted three fighter jets and eight missiles Thursday night, according to sources who spoke to India Today.

The incident happened the day after India launched Operation Sindoor, which hit terror hideouts in Pakistan and killed 100 terrorists, according to reports.

Ambati Rayudu calls for peace amidst escalating tensions

Using Mahatma Gandhi's quote, "An eye for an eye makes the world blind," former CSK and India player Ambati Rayudu called for peace on social media.

Reactions to his posts were divided, with some accusing him of weakening the resolve of the country. He clarified his position by going into detail on how peace and patriotism may coexist.

“This isn’t a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom… Patriotism and peace can walk hand in hand,” he further stated.

 He earlier shared a prayer for those affected. “Prayers for peace and safety in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab… Hoping for strength, security, and swift resolution. Jai Hind!”

 On Thursday, a blackout was enforced in several districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Mohali in Punjab, as well as in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, amid the escalating tensions.

Pakistan’s strikes marked a significant escalation, targeting Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir. India’s S-400 systems reportedly intercepted eight missiles and three fighter jets.
