On 21 May 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL. In the reverse fixture, MI defeated SRH in Hyderabad. So, they were looking to double over them while SRH were looking to win this time around. However, it was a must-win game for MI to stay alive in the race for the playoffs.

Apart from ensuring a win, they were also hoping that RCB lose their match against GT or that the clash in Bengaluru gets abandoned due to rain. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. For SRH, Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal came out to bat at Wankhede.

MI defeated SRH by eight wickets

Both these openers gave a blistering start to the innings as they put up a 140-run partnership for the first wicket in 13.5 overs. Vivrant scored 69 runs off 47 balls, nine fours, and two sixes. Along with him, Mayank scored 83 runs off 46 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. After that, other batters failed to score big as SRH scored 200 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. For MI, Akash Madhwal took four wickets for 37 runs in four overs. Along with him, Chris Jordan took one wicket.

In reply, Ishan Kishan began the chase with some good shots before getting out on 14 runs off 12 balls. After that, for the second wicket, Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green stitched a partnership of 128 runs. Rohit scored 56 runs off 37 balls, including eight fours and one six. Green was playing some outstanding shots all around the park as MI were at 160 runs for two wickets in 15 overs. Finally, Cameron Green remained not out on 100* runs off 47 balls as MI chased down the target in 18 overs with eight wickets in hand. It was the maiden IPL ton for the Aussie batter that helped MI to stay alive in the qualification race.
