All you need to know about Devendra Bora, the Uttarakhand bowler who dismissed Rohit Sharma for a golden duck

Rohit Sharma had set his first appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 tournament on fire. Sharma, playing for Mumbai, had slammed 155 runs against Sikkim in the game that was played on December 24 in Jaipur.

Much was expected from Rohit Sharma in Mumbai’s second game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy tourney. Mumbai clashed with Uttarakhand on December 26, 2025, at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. 

Rohit Sharma opened the innings with Angkrish Raghuvanshi after Uttarakhand won the toss and elected to field first. Rohit Sharma got to strike on the final ball of the first over. Devendra Singh Bora, a 25-year-old fast bowler, dismissed Rohit when he attempted his signature pull shot to a short ball. 

Rohit top edged the ball to fine leg, where Jagmohan Nagarkoti took a catch in his second attempt. Rohit Sharma was highly dejected as he walked off the field to complete silence in the stadium.

However, Mumbai recovered well from the jolt. Musheer Khan and his brother Sarfaraz Khan hit fifties, while Hardik Tamore top-scored with 93* as Mumbai posted 331/7 in 50 overs. 

Who is Devendra Singh Bora? The bowler who dismissed Rohit Sharma for first-ball duck

Devendra Singh Bora, 25, is a right-arm medium-pace bowler, who was born on December 6, 2000. Playing only his second List-A game for Uttarakhand, Bora produced a perfect delivery to dismiss star batter Rohit Sharma on a golden duck.

Although he is still very much in the early phases of his professional career at the age of 25, his ability to take important wickets has already started to draw attention. Devendra's career in competitive cricket started in Uttarakhand's local circuits, where he soon made a name for himself with hard work and disciplined bowling. 

He was included in Uttarakhand's main team because to his accomplishments in state leagues, and he has subsequently made appearances in both first-class and List A formats. Bora has played 15 First-Class matches, taking 30 wickets with the best bowling figures of 6/79.  He has four wickets in two List-A games.

Bora's ability to perform well under duress, demonstrated by his decision to fire a superstar like Rohit, points to a promising future. It won't be long until he becomes a household name among cricket fans if he keeps honing his craft and being reliable.
