The 16th season of the Indian T20 League is in progress. Before the start of the tournament, the fans saw the extravagant opening ceremony with renowned singer Arijit Singh stealing the show. The first game was played between the defending champions, Gujarat and Chennai. The second game is being played between Punjab and Kolkata at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

Meanwhile, the similarity between both games is the lag faced by the fans over the course of 24 hours. Inside the first 24 hours of the tournament, fans have sent out numerous complaints about buffering and lagging while the matches are going on. While TV viewers aren't facing the issue, the online streaming rights holder, Jio Cinema is facing the flak of the fans.

Viacom is offering free streaming of IPL 2023 on its OTT JioCinema. The owners, Reliance picked the lion's share of ITL broadcasting rights (for 2023-2027) for a total of Rs 23,758 crore last year. This is for the first time that two companies are broadcasting the matches in India and other regions on separate platforms.

Indian T20 League opens doors for fans and home and away format

On the flip side, the fans are once again witnessing the home and away format in the tournament. It was used for the last time in 2019. During the COVID-19 years (2020, 2021, and 2022), the tournament was played within a few venues with most teams not playing at home.

Also, during this phase, the fans weren't allowed at all in 2020 and 2021 (India Leg). On the other hand, the 2022 season saw only a certain percentage of fans allowed inside the stands. During the playoffs, the limit was increased to full capacity with the threat of the pandemic gone. This time around, the fans are arriving at the venues in numbers.

Also, the tournament has returned to its home and away format. This means that all teams will get to play certain games at home as well.
