The Indian team for the Australian tour has been announced. The ODI squad's new captaincy role was, in fact, the biggest surprise. Subhman Gill has been assigned to the position, while Rohit Sharma has been dismissed. The ODI squad has named Shreyas Iyer as their vice-captain.

The fans were taken aback by a few additional calls in addition to the unexpected changes in leadership positions. The exclusion of seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja from the ODI squad was another major shock. Agarkar clarified, however, that Jadeja's exclusion was due to the selection committee's emphasis on excluding as many spinners as possible. Agarkar added that the seasoned all-rounder is still part of Team India's plans.

"He's very much in the plans. But there will be some competition for places. Of course, he was there in the Champions Trophy squad. Because we took those extra spinners with the conditions there, at the moment, we could only carry one and get some balance in the team with Washi and Kuldeep there as well. And I don't think we're going to need more than that in Australia spin," said Agarkar during the press conference.

"But he's clearly in the scheme of things, Jaddu, with how good he is, what he offers us as a batter and a bowler, but particularly in the field as well. It's just three matches... it's a short series. You can't accommodate everyone. And unfortunately, at the moment, he's missing out," he added.

He claims that the management decided on a single left-arm spin option, favouring Kuldeep Yadav for wrist-spin variation and Washington Sundar for batting depth. Although he is not the team's first pick right now, 36-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is still in the running for upcoming games, according to Ajit Agarkar.

Agarkar stressed that Jadeja is still essential to India's long-term goals, which include winning the 2027 ODI World Cup, and that the squad's makeup for this short, three-match tour is the only reason for his exclusion.
