Team India scripted history in Australia winning their second consecutive Test series down under. This win was a special one as it was achieved without eight of their first-choice players unavailable due to injury or personal reasons. The regular skipper Virat Kohli had also returned home after the first Test and by the time the fourth and final Test began, all the first-choice bowlers were ruled out due to injury.

But Ajinkya Rahane marshalled his troops really well and led a young team admirably well. After the Gabba heist where India defeated Australia by three wickets, the whole team got a hero’s welcome. Accordingly, Rahane also received a grand welcome as he walked on a red carpet after entering the society he lives in Mumbai in the Mulund area.

There was a special celebration organised as well and this is when the gentleman Rahane came to the fore. He was told to cut with Kangaroo on it holding the Indian flag and the stand-in India skipper clearly refused to do so. Speaking on the same with a renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle, Ajinkya Rahane revealed the reason for not cutting the cake.

He stated that one has to respect the opposition even if you have beaten them. Ajinkya Rahane also pointed out Kangaroo is Australia’s national animal and cutting it would’ve been insulting the country itself.

“Kangaroo is their national animal. I don’t want to do that. You give your opposition respect, you treat them well even if you win or even if you create history. You have to have respect for your opponent and other countries. That is why I took the decision against cutting the cake with a kangaroo on it,” he said.
